A paper label affixed to the verso identifies the sitter as Marie Elisabeth de Blochausen (born December 5, 1712), the daughter of Jean Baptiste de Blochausen and Susanne Lambertine de Piret de Sainte-Ode. The note further reveals that the painting was completed in 1728 and restored in 1862 at the direction of Baron Georges-Frédéric-Prosper de Blochausen of Bertrange.

The canvas is lined; there is evidence of scattered in-painting visible under UV light (affecting less than 10% of the surface); some areas of paint loss around perimeter of image; some loss to the frame.
