The first an ink wash sketch titled Live Oak, signed at the lower right, matted and framed under glass, retaining a gallery label to the verso (SS 12 x 9 1/8 in.; DOA 17 x 14 in.); the second a copy of "A Balkan Sketchbook," first and only edition, no. 191 of 500 signed and numbered copies, all drawings have been reproduced the same size as the originals in the artist's sketchbook, printing plates were destroyed by the print on December 14, 1977, published by Foxfire Fine Arts, Inc. of Charlotte, NC, with the original dust jacket.

Born in Wilmington, Howell received his early artistic training from an eccentric British transplant, Elisabeth Chant. He went on to seek further training during his travels to artist colonies in the Northeast, New York, Paris, and the Balkans.

Soft cockling and some toning to sketch; some very minor shelf wear to dust jacket on book.
