19th century ormolu mounted covered urn, the cobalt and gilt embellished field hand painted with a rural landscape scene on one side, the opposite side with a courting scene signed "Vernet", on footed base. Vincennes 1753 mark underside of lid.

Claude Joseph Vernet was an 18th century French painter known for his Mediterranean harbor scenes. Thus this artist signature is likely apocryphal.
