English born, John Noble Barlow studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, and also in Belgium, the Netherlands, and New York City. He lived in the United States for a short period in the late 1880s, during which he was a member of the Providence Art Club and exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Art Institute of Chicago.
