Civil War Era Whitney Second Model Navy Revolver
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Serial number unknown; percussion, .36 caliber, engraved six-shot cylinder ; 7.5 in. octagonal barrel stamped E. WHITNEY / NEW HAVEN, no martial markings visible; silvered brass trigger guard, two-piece walnut grips; the original holster having "MA" carved in the flap, which is secured by a brass finial.

From an estate on the Virginia Peninsula below Richmond

Fresh attic condition with working action; light rusting and overall oxidation to ferrous metal elements; some scratching to barrel flats; cylinder scenes no longer identifiable; the cylinder wedge needs to be worked loose; the silvering largely worn from the trigger guard; the grips carved to be open on the butt; the holster is somewhat stiff with expected surface crazing. Since it is original and intact, revolver is a good candidate for restoration.
