This painting is an edited copy of the iconic photograph by Kanaga of a young mother with her two children taken in Maitland, Florida. The photograph was featured prominently in Edward Steichen's 1955 blockbuster exhibition The Family of Man at MoMA. While the original photograph included the mother with her son and daughter, the painter chose to only include the son.
