2nd century A.D., the ring consisting of an imperial lady's profile with bound hair mounted to pointed convex hoop. Imperial coin portraits of Plotina, wife of the emperor Trajan (98-117 A.D.), generally depict the empress wearing a long plait reaching the back of her neck. Plotina's coin portraits of the Greek East, however, often resemble the subject of this ring.
