Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Oil on canvas (lined), unsigned, presented in a 19th century carved and gilt wood frame retaining a printed label for Des Freres Bisoni of Florence and Paris to the verso.

SS 23 3/8 x 19 in.; DOA 31.75 x 27.5 in.

This tronie of a white haired man is dramatically juxtaposed against a dark ground. The artist avoided superfluous ornament and dress, instead focusing on the expressive deep set eyes beneath a crinkled brow.

New stretchers; repaired tear by figure's proper right cheekbone; scattered re-touch visible under UV light; areas of over-cleaning; some yellowing varnish; minor chipping to frame.
