Long's paintings have enjoyed a resurgence in the past fifteen years. He is now held in esteem as a folk and outsider artist alongside Minnie Evans and Howard Finster, among others. Long's paintings were included in a 2002 retrospective exhibition mounted by David Steel and Brad Thomas for the NC Museum of Art in conjunction with the Van Every/Smith Galleries at Davidson College.
