Édouard Manet first exhibited The Old Musician at Galerie Martinet in Paris in 1863. It was exhibited another eight times between 1863 and 1912, with showings in Paris, London, Dublin, the Hague, and Saint Petersburg. The painting is currently on exhibit at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
