The subject in this early war image wears a seven button shell jacket with shoulder straps and collar trim, his trousers with stripes, the conforming kepi affixed with an unknown company designation "MG"; he stands tall with a clip point bowie knife and a Model 1842 U.S. 69 caliber smoothbore musket. Housed in a full case.

This young soldier is said to be a member of the Gentry family from Granville County, NC.

A clear photograph with good tonal contrasts; light wiping abrasions only visible when angled to a light source; the case worn and having with modern tape strips on the spine.
