Pertaining to Private Solomon Cassidy (1841-1914), serving variously in Co. "B" 3rd Pennsylvania Infantry, Co. "K" 84th Pennsylvania Infantry, and Co. "K" 57th Pennsylvania Infantry between April 2, 1861 and war's end in 1865; he also was captured at Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 3, 1863 while serving with the 84th regiment. After the war, Cassidy lived in Altoona and was a member of GAR Lieut. S.C. Potts Post 62; included here is a war-date quarter plate tintype showing Pvt. Cassidy standing unarmed against a painted camp scene backdrop while wearing a 7-button jacket and US oval belt plate; his postwar Grand Army of the Republic kepi and four GAR gilt brass uniform buttons accompany the portrait. These items are professionally displayed in a modern gilt shadowbox frame.
