1776 Issue of The Pennsylvania Magazine Announcing Independence
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
(Philadelphia, Robert Aitken), composed of pages 249-296, lacking Aitken's fold-out map of the Carolinas and Georgia; small octavo (8.25 in.), this issue, though being June's installment, was printed in early July due to a wartime paper shortage, the delay allowing for a small insertion near the bottom of the last page that reads, "July 2. This day the Hon. Continental Congress declared the UNITED COLONIES FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES." The magazine's subsequent July issue would give the entire text of the Declaration of Independence, however this is the earlier announcement.

Overall age toning with some minor foxing and a few small stains; stitching intact; very good condition.
