Oil on canvas (lined), unsigned, a three-quarter length portrait of the lady seated with a bouquet of lilies of the valley tucked into the empire waist of her white satin gown, presented in an antique gilt composition frame.

This is purportedly a portrait of Mary Elizabeth Louisa Rodney Carpenter Lyon-Bowes (January 1, 1783 - June 1, 1811). She was the daughter of George Carpenter and Mary Elizabeth (Walsh) Carpenter Delaval. She married Thomas Lyon-Bowes, 11th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne on March 25, 1800. They had two children, Thomas George Lyon-Bowes, Lord Glamis, and Mary Isabella Lyon-Bowes. Lady Lyon-Bowes is the 3rd great-grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II.

Breaks to tacking edge of canvas; minor surface scratches; minor paint flakes to background at proper right of head; some rubbing and minor chipping to frame.
