Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Constance Forsyth began her art studies at the John Herron Art School. She attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia in 1927, 1928, and 1930. She also studied at the Broadmoor Art Academy in Colorado Springs in 1932 and 1934. The year between her Colorado studies was spent as an assistance to Thomas Hart Benton on the Indiana History Murals project for the Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago.

In 1940, Forsyth accepted a teaching position at the The University of Texas - Austin. She was the first woman hired in the art department at the university and remained there until her retirement in 1973. A noted Texas Modernist, Forsyth's works are in the collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Blanton Museum of Art, and others.
