Stephen Fisher was born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. He earned a BFA in painting and printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University (1976) and an MFA in printmaking from Yale University (1981). Fisher is a professor of art at Rhode Island College, a post he has held since 1990.
