A native of North Carolina, Olivia Gatewood has lived and traveled extensively throughout the world. In 2019, she was honored by Governor Roy Cooper and the NC African American Heritage Commission for her contribution to the arts in North Carolina. Her works are in numerous prominent collections including those of Oprah Winfrey, Nnenna Freelon, and the late Dr. John Hope Franklin. Gatewood's painting have been exhibited recently at Shaw University, Raleigh, Hayti Heritage Center, Durham, North Carolina Central University Art Museum, Durham, and more.
