Vintage Navajo Child's Outfit and Doll

1920s or earlier, consisting of a sky blue silk blouse with seven buttons and a string of glass beads over a multi-colored skirt; included is a papoose doll in beaded deerskin over a wooden frame. Presented in a modern shadowbox frame with plexiglass window.

Dress and blouse overall 32 in.; doll 9.5 in.

Private North Carolina Collection

From the collection of Mrs. Harriet Nottingham, an Ohio missionary serving the Navajos of Shiprock, New Mexico in the 1920s. Tribal members presented her with the artifacts here as a farewell gesture of thanks and goodwill upon her departure from the reservation.

The contents are held in place with glue strips, otherwise good condition.
