Oil on canvas (lined), unsigned, circa 1830, retaining a hand-written label to the verso reading "Eunice Barker Coffin / mother to / Geo. Washington Coffin," a label on the top stretcher bears a 1941 date (likely related to a restoration or sale), presented in a period gilt frame.

DOA 32.5 x 27.75 in.

Eunice Barker Coffin was born in Nantucket in 1757 and died in Boston in 1838. She was married to Peleg Coffin, Jr., a US Congressman, president of the New England Marine Insurance Company, and served the state of Massachusetts in numerous public offices.
