Born in Japan, Paul Horiuchi immigrated to the United States at the age of fourteen. After working for the Union Pacific Railroad in Wyoming, he moved to Seattle, Washington in 1946. It was in Seattle that he transitioned from traditional painting to a collage medium. His beautiful and serene compositions are created from casein and sumi ink painted mulberry paper torn and layered on a canvas.

Paul Horiuchi's works are in the collections of numerous museums, including The Seattle Art Museum, Washington, the Portland Art Museum, Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, and the Museum of Northwest Art, La Conner, Washington.
