Circa 1900, oil on oval porcelain plaque with impressed "15" to verso, unsigned, presented in a fine period hardwood frame with carved ornament.

Plaque 3.25 x 2.5 in.; DOA 5.75 x 5 in.

This is a copy of the portrait of the puritanical prophet, Savonarola, painted by Fra Bartolomeo, currently in the collection of the Museum di San Marco, Florence. It was completed just before the Dominican friar was executed in 1498 .
