The copyist is likely Emma Focacci, an Italian artist active in the first half of the 20th century. The original painting, completed by Henner in 1885 and lost circa 1900, depicts the profile of Saint Fabiola, patron saint of nurses and abused spouses.

Some retouch under chin; spot retouch to dark ground; obscuring varnish under UV light.
