Both 19th century, the first a square form in satinwood with dark banded inlays to borders and inlaid escutcheon, featuring a second interior lid (4.25 x 4.25 x 4.5 in.) (wear to corners, diagonal tight veneer separation to back, some minor wear to paper lining to interior); the second a taller square form, mahogany veneer, with banded inlay to lid and inlaid shield shaped escutcheon (5.75 x 4.5 x 4.25 in.) (Veneer beginning to peel on back lower corner, some other small areas of veneer loss, stable veneer separation along front lid edge).
