The 5.5 in. blade stamped ALEXANDER/ SHEFFIELD on one side and with NY flanking a Union shield on the opposite side; the blade is fitted into an antler grip having a german silver guard and side plate; the period sheath is of tooled leather.

The importer, R. H. Alexander, was based in New York City and advertised that fact on his bowies.

A solid weapon with light oxidation to the blade; appropriate wear from normal use; split to one side of the sheath.
