An interesting historical character stoneware jug with a visage closely resembling that of Welch's juice founder, applied features above a banner bearing his name, inscribed on the underside "Owens BH".

In 1869, Welch, a Methodist Episcopal, invented a method of pasteurizing grape juice so that fermentation was stopped, and the drink was non-alcoholic. He persuaded local churches to adopt this non-alcoholic wine for communion services.
