Alfred S. Mira was born in Italy, but is best known for his paintings of New York City. Between the years of 1919 through 1928, he studied at the National Academy of Design, Beaux-Arts Institute of Design and The Art Students League of New York. Many of his paintings depict bustling city scenes observed in his own neighborhood, Greenwich Village. The paintings bear marks of impressionism with a hefty dose of realism, seemingly capturing the smells and sounds of the city on a two-dimensional plane.

Light surface grime; small paint flake and light scratch in sky at right of center; no evidence of restoration visible under UV light.
