Octavius Thomas Clark (British, 1850-1921), Riverscape

Oil on canvas, signed lower left, presented in an attractive gilt frame.

Frame dimensions 26 x 22 in.

Octavius was born into a family of artists, and painted primarily serene country landscapes. He became the most prolific painter of the Clark family, selling his work primarily art dealers, with much of it going to America. Most of his paintings were oils on canvas but he also worked in watercolor. Occasionally he painted under the name of Louis Edgar.

Octavius became a Free Mason of the Citadel Lodge, Harrow Station, in 1887. Two years later he was also enrolled as a member of The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes.

Good estate condition, with scattered light stable craquelure.
