After his service in WWII, Frank studied under Jacques Maroger, the former technical director of the Louvre Museum laboratory in Paris. Like Maroger, he devoted his life to the study of the oil based medium of the Old Masters.

He became a member of the famed "Six Realists of Baltimore," whose showing in the early sixties drew thousands to their downtown Baltimore gallery. He published his book, The Master Keys, the year before he died.
