The first an acrylic on board, monogrammed at lower right and signed on the verso, presented in a gold tone metal frame, a gallery label affixed to the verso identifies the painting as Kitchen Painting #3; the second an oil on board, monogrammed at lower right, presented in a gilt composition frame.

Originally from North Carolina, Mangum received his bachelor's and master's degrees from UNC - Chapel Hill. He furthered his studies at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Art Students League of New York. He returned to North Carolina in the 1960s, where he taught art at Salem College from 1962 to 1987.

Overall good condition; some unobtrusive inconsistencies to surface texture of the first, possibly inherent to painting process; some surface grime to the second.
