Benches such as this were used on railroad platforms during the 19th century. The backs were reversible allowing them to be quickly transitioned to match the approaching train.

Both ends of back support have been repaired where they meet the cast iron arm; light scratching to seat; some light rusting and paint loss to cast iron frame.
