An Important Minton Ormolu Mounted Majolica Jardiniere and Pedestal
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
1871, composed of a pedestal of triangular storks, overlooking three mermaids, which supports a wide basin mounted with ormolu acanthus leaves in high relief. The basin repeats the aquatic theme, having a rim encircled with a band of three-dimensional lustrous pottery pearls above a running water lily design over scallop shells. The underside is impressed with shape 130 and "Minton" with cypher mark.

DOA 24 x 35 in.

An Illustration of a similar style jardiniere is included in the publication Majolica: A Complete History and Illustrated Survey, Joan B. Stacke and Marilyn G. Karmason.

Breaks to the petals of one pedestal flower; some of the pearls have been replaced; very good condition for a piece of this size and intricacy.
