(Munich: H. A. Eckert & Chrestien Weiss, 1838-43), folio (14.5 x 10 3/8 in.), being a portfolio of (183) hand-colored lithographic plates depicting military uniforms as worn by the troops of various German states, the Austrian Empire, and Tsarist Russia; most plates have one of three blind stamps present that name the publisher; each plate is tipped onto captioned sheets by a spot of adhesive in its upper corners. The collection is filed in (24) identical publisher's sleeves printed with the same vignette of a military artist sketching a mounted cameleer posing in the foreground.NC
Acquired by the consignor from an estate sale at the Wrightsville Beach, NC home of the late Hollywood producer Dino De Laurentiis.
Each print retains strong color and would be suitable for framing in a mat; eleven (11) of the prints have come loose, but remain with their mounts; sixteen (16) prints -eight from the German municipality of Nassau- have what appear to be burnt corners or edges resulting in losses; all of the prints show various degrees of age toning and many have peripheral chips; occasional damp stains and light foxing are also present. Variously, fair to very good condition. The folders are generally in fair condition, some being in poor condition.
