Frans Swagers, born in Utrecht, was a painter of pastoral and coastal scenes, which often includes figures and animals. He painted in the Dutch romantic manner. His works seem to be divided between those executed in the Netherlands and his latter works painted in France. A collection of his paintings is in the Bowes Museum, County Durham, England.

Good estate condition, scattered stable craquelure to both; coastal scene with small areas of retouch to foreground water and shrubbery; other with retouch to shrubbery above trio of figures on path.
