Raised in Hiroshima, Japan, Connie learned Sumi Calligraphy and Sumi-e painting. She moved to Salisbury, NC with her husband and became an active member in the arts community, teaching watercolor and Sumi arts in North Carolina. She was a charter member of the Watercolor Society of NC, and was awarded an honorary life membership in 1977. In 1997, she was awarded the Waterworks' Lifetime Achievement Award. Connie also painted public commissioned pieces including "The Crane Wife" angel for Robertson Gateway Park.
