Peter Krasnow was born in a small village in Ukraine. He immigrated to the United States in 1908 and enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago. After a brief sojourn to New York, he and his wife settled in Los Angeles, California.

The present work likely dates to his four year period in the Dordogne valley of France.

Krasnow was a member of the California Art Club. He exhibited at such prominent venues as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Oakland Art Gallery, Galerie Pierre in Paris, and the Pasadena Art Institute.
