From the Collection of the Artist, Hillsborough, North Carolina

Sam Ezell has become a leading Folk and “Outsider” artist in the local arts communities of Durham and Orange Counties, as well as the surrounding areas. He took up painting in 2008 when an artist friend requested he create something for her, and since then the demand for Ezell’s colorful, bold works continues to grow.

Ezell began painting everyday objects in the folk art tradition – household fixtures like jars of pickles and mayonnaise, as well as farm animals and church scenes. When he lost ninety five percent of his vision in one eye, he began to paint larger works that are abstract in composition but retain the same vibrant palette. Ezell’s work is popular at auctions, galleries, and with antique dealers throughout the Southeast.

Good overall condition; some minor light surface grime.
