Marina Konovalova-Bare grew up in Russia and began her artistic training at the early age of eleven through the Leningrad Children's School of the Arts. Beginning with watercolor and gouache, she expanded her practice to work with tempera at the St. Petersburg Spiritual Seminary, learning by studying frescoes and Russian icons at the Russian Museum of St. Petersburg. She later went on to study at the St. Petersburg Academy of Theatrical Art.
