"The Pastoral Visit Painted in the summer and early winter of 1880 at the Tyler Studio, Warrenton. The Pastor, old Geo. Washington. The host, Daniel Brown. The background my own composition. A subject contemplated long. I took it to Washington early in January 1881 where I opened a studio at Vernon Row, 945 Penn. Avenue, and there exhibited it, and later at the Corcoran Gallery, where, through the interest of Dr. W. Colburns, it was brought to the attention of and purchased by Mr. Corcoran for the gallery at the sum state ($1500)...
