Polychrome glazed with craquelure surface, the banner, reading "PORTORICO" joins two pipe smokers, a tobacco plant between them, the underside is marked with a drawing of a claw. With copper cover.

Jar only 10 1/2 in.

Private Collection of European Ceramics and Dutch Delftware, South Carolina

Tobacco became very popular in the 1700s and arrived, cured and dried, in large rolls. It was then cut and stored in Delft jars labeled for the place of origin or for the port.
