Much of his coastal scene imagery for which he was best known, was derived from life at these coastal studio locals. He is also known for his landscape and genre paintings, including farm and Parisian scenes.

In Rockport, he established the Thieme School of Art where he was Director. He was a member of many prestigious fine art organizations, including the American Water Color Society; Art Alliance of America; Salmagundi Club; Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts; Boston Art Club, and many others.

Anthony also exhibited widely in many prestigious galleries and institutions, including the National Academy of Design, 1930-1934; Art Institute of Chicago, 1930; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, 1929-1931; Corcoran Gallery of Art, 1932; among many others.
