This painting is after an etching by Both published circa 1620-1638 and printed by Jan Both. It depicts Taste, from a series on the Five Senses, by portraying the biscuit maker Griete-gruys baking pancakes for greedy children and adults.

Obscuring varnish with evidence of re-touch throughout under UV light; some flaking and crazing to gilding on frame.
