Henri Hecht Maïk was born in Paris and refers to himself as a "Primitive painter" of dream-like jungle scenes. His talents also extend beyond painting, as he has collaborated with Aubusson to create tapestries and he has illustrated children's books. Maïk's work has been exhibited at the Musée de l'Art Moderne, Paris; Salon d'Automne, Paris; Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie Aubusson; and other locations. Wally Findlay Galleries, where this work was purchased, hosted the first US exhibition of Maïk's paintings in 1964.
