New England Miniature Inlaid Mahogany Tambour Desk

Attributed to Massachusetts, early 19th century, mahogany veneer, white pine secondary, a rectangular case with applied top side and rear trim, inlaid panels and banding to top, central c-scroll tambour opening to an interior with four small drawers, flanked by two small graduated stacking drawers, above two upper small side-by-side drawers (when removed reveal a secret rear drawer), above two graduated longer drawers (the bottom a faux double drawer), flanked by two tambour vertical compartments, applied turned half columns to the upper stile, applied fully turned columns at lower stile, the sides of case featuring two burlwood flame vertical panels, pronounced scalloped skirt with inlaid central drop fan inlay, turned legs.

17.5 x 19.5 x 9.5 in.

Top veneer with shrinkage cracks and buckling; minor loss; all three tambours present but difficult to retract.
