Contemporary folk artist, Irmaly Bracklin, grew up surrounded by art and artists. Her grandfather was German Expressionist artist, Hans Grohs, and his work hung on the walls in her family's home in the Miami, where her mother was also an art historian. Bracklin received her BFA from Appalachian State University, her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and over the years she also studied at the Paris American Art Academy, a folk art school in Denmark, and the University of Wurzberg in Germany. Bracklin says that the vibrant colors and subject matter in her current work stems from Cuban and Latin American influence from her upbringing in Miami.
