A Rare Southern Federal Inlaid Walnut Standing Slant Front Desk

Early 19th century, attributed to piedmont North Carolina or Valley of Virginia?, poplar secondary, dovetailed case, hinged slat lid with bread board ends and loper supports, interior with large central prospect door (the interior of which has four small drawers), flanked by six small drawers and eight pigeon holes, four graduated cock beaded drawers, the drawers and lid all with light wood line inlay, line and banded inlaid base, scalloped and shaped skirt, bracket feet facings with spur.

Unusual tall standing desk form.

Dark staining to top; shrinkage splits and scraping to lid; replaced hinges with patch marks to interior of lid; some later drawer guides; drawer runners rebuilt; some interior pigeon hole valances missing (some pieces present); pulls are old and possibly original and in original holes; shrinkage crack with fill to left and right side panels; feet are original but front with cracks to facings.
