19th century; the first inscribed and signed "Kaaters - Skills Painted by D. S. Barrett" at lower right, a charmingly naive landscape complete with bears and hunters on the frozen lake and an American Indian with bow in the woods; the second depicts a view of a Hudson River Valley village and numerous sailboats and a paddle wheeler plying the wide river, signed "By / DSB / (artist's cipher);" both matted and framed under glass.
