The spine of the 36-1/4 in. curved blade is engraved with a manufacture date of "Jun 1836"; the ricasso stamped with a "W" in a shield and a "T" in an oval; brass pommel above branched guard stamped "352"; the wooden grip wrapped in leather secured by brass wire; with un-marked iron scabbard having two suspension rings.

Length overall 44 in.

The familiar American Model 1840 cavalry sabers were based on the Model 1822 Chatellerault saber.

Some chips to leather on grip; bright blade; the scabbard with mild oxidation some pushes, split to pommel and small hole above top ring mount; overall very good condition.
