Jack Lee McLean is known for his dramatic depictions of 20th century ranching culture. His expansive landscapes are populated by the solitary figures of cowboys and Indians with their horses, cattle or wild animals of the West.

McLean studied at the Vancouver School of Art before serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
