Being a one-page, 8vo, manuscript Document Signed "Jno. Stevens" and addressed to "Mr. Christopher Champlin" for labor and materials used between December 1757 and May 1758; entires for three days note "Negro" labor, while a February 2, 1758 records fees for building a "Cobuse (galley) in your privateer."

8-1/2 x 5-1/2 in.

Christopher Champlin (1731-1805) engaged in conventional commerce, the slave trade, and privateering. This document, listing labor costs for a privateer's galley likely associates him with the Brigantine George, a Newport privateer built in 1757.

Sunned; old tape residue on back corners for mounting; overall very good condition.
