Edward Leavitt was among the leading still life painters of New England in the 19th century. Living in Providence, Rhode Island, he studied with James Morgan Lewin in nearby Fall River, Massachusetts. Leavitt exhibited frequently throughout his lifetime, showing works at the National Academy of Design, Boston Art Club and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Stable craquelure; light surface grime; frame with later gold paint and some minor chipping.
